The Earl of Sandwich restaurant in the Downtown Disney area of Disneyland Resort has announced its permanent closure, resulting in the layoff of 167 employees. This ongoing issue follows the restaurant’s relocation from its original building, which was demolished in 2022. A new permanent site is under construction, with plans for a quick-service sandwich spot and a table-service restaurant. Currently, Earl of Sandwich is operating at a temporary Eastside location and a pop-up pod near the Star Wars Trading Post.
Despite initial plans involving other businesses, the restaurant took over the Lovelair Bakery space when it closed in 2023. However, with Porto’s Bakery slated to take over the La Brea location, the building housing Earl of Sandwich is set for demolition, necessitating another move for the restaurant. This closure will lead to layoffs beginning July 28 and concluding by August 10. The pop-up location remains unaffected for now, but further temporary options may not materialize until the new building opens.
