A two-year-old boy tragically died after being swept away in floodwaters in Southern California, while his father was rescued by authorities. The incident occurred Thursday night in Burstow, east of Los Angeles, during a heavy rainstorm that caused landslides and road blockages. The child was separated from his father during the flooding, and his body was recovered the following day.
In addition, authorities rescued ten people and six vehicles on State Route 38 near the San Bernardino National Forest. Fortunately, no injuries or missing persons were reported in that area, despite significant landslide damage impacting nearby communities like Forest Falls and Oak Glen.
The National Weather Service reported an unusual rainfall intensity, measuring nearly two inches in just two hours, leading to severe flooding and risks in a region already vulnerable due to previous wildfires. Following the storm, evacuation warnings for affected mountain communities were lifted by Friday evening.
