Humanity is in the early phases of space exploration, with NASA’s Artemis 2 set to return us to the Moon and Mars. In the meantime, players can immerse themselves in “Elite Dangerous,” a top space exploration game that features an expansive replica of the Milky Way galaxy. Currently, over 6,500 players are participating in Distant Worlds 3, a community-driven expedition expected to last around three months.
Past Distant Worlds events, launched in 2016 and 2019, attracted 1,300 and nearly 14,000 players respectively. This expedition emphasizes exploration and collaboration, with planned activities like geological projects and mining targets. A Reddit user shared an impressive video of a fleet of ships launching together into faster-than-light travel.
The game, which debuted in 2014, allows players to pilot ships for exploration, trading, and combat. Significant updates have enhanced gameplay, including planetary landings and even an alien invasion. Gauthier Verquerre, Executive Producer of “Elite Dangerous,” expressed excitement about the player-driven Distant Worlds 3, praising the supportive community. The expedition has already commenced, and interested players can still join by signing up on the Distant Worlds 3 website.
