The Division I Cabinet has approved changes to the transfer windows for various sports, including men’s and women’s basketball, men’s wrestling, men’s ice hockey, and men’s and women’s track and field. These changes, recommended by sports monitoring committees, will take effect immediately.
Basketball: Transfer windows for men’s and women’s basketball will last 15 days starting the day after their NCAA Tournament championship games. If a coaching change occurs, an additional 15-day period will be available five days after the new coach is announced, with conditions regarding the timing of announcements and the previous coach’s departure.
Men’s Wrestling: The transfer period will now be 30 days from April 1, reduced from the previous 45-day window.
Men’s Ice Hockey: A 15-day transfer window will open the Monday following the NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Championship. Similar provisions for coaching changes will apply as in basketball.
Track and Field: The existing transfer window after the indoor season will be eliminated. Student-athletes will have a 30-day window starting the day after selections for the outdoor championships.
New Opportunities for Women’s Sports: A national collegiate championship in acrobatics, tumbling, and stunts has been proposed, pending approval at the Division II and III business sessions. Additionally, women’s flag football has been added to the Emerging Sports for Women program to encourage sponsorship from schools.
