Federal investigators have released dramatic images of the UPS cargo plane crash in Kentucky, which occurred on November 4, killing 14 people. The photos show signs of cracking in the left wing engine mount as the engine ejected, with flames engulfing the aircraft. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported that the MD-11 plane struggled to reach 30 feet above ground during takeoff.
The crash resulted in the deaths of three pilots and 11 individuals on the ground near Muhammad Ali International Airport. Inspections revealed that the plane had been maintained properly according to FAA guidelines, but there are concerns about the frequency and thoroughness of inspections, especially regarding fatigue cracking in metal parts.
All MD-11 aircraft, including those operated by UPS and FedEx, are currently grounded pending inspections. UPS is collaborating with authorities to determine the crash’s cause and evaluate inspection and repair processes.
