The Connecticut Airports Authority (CAA) expressed disappointment over Avero Airlines’ decision to discontinue its only nonstop service from Bradley International Airport to Montego Bay, Jamaica. Avero informed the CAA of its service suspension, which came as a surprise given the strong ridership and support for the route.
Since beginning operations from Tweed in November 2021, Avero rapidly expanded but paused service to three cities after a short time. The CAA stated Avero requested to waive its rent obligations due to financial difficulties, which they denied, emphasizing the importance of Avero honoring their commitments.
The agency criticized Avero for canceling routes despite good load factors, arguing that the airline misrepresented its operational challenges by citing a lack of demand. Avero had benefited from various incentives, including state revenue guarantees and marketing support. The CAA remains committed to restoring direct flights to Jamaica and has received interest from other airlines to resume the service.
