A California man, Ryan Wardwell, 46, from Long Beach, was rescued after being trapped behind a waterfall for two days during a climbing expedition at the Seven Teacups on August 10. The extreme hydraulics of the waterfall pushed him off his rappel line, leaving him stranded behind the cascade of the Khan River.
Local law enforcement began searching for him on August 11 with infrared technology, but challenging terrain and fading daylight hindered efforts. A drone finally located him the next day. Wardwell was found alive and conscious, sharing details of his predicament before being safely airlifted by a California Highway Patrol helicopter.
He sustained minor injuries and dehydration but was reunited with family members at the scene. In a reminder to outdoor enthusiasts, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office urged caution when navigating the area, highlighting the risks associated with such adventures.
