In Minnesota, wind gusts reached 106 mph, damaging properties and causing downed power lines. Local emergency management officials warned of long-term power outages following significant flooding and damage. The storm was expected to move to Michigan and then to upstate New York, although conditions were anticipated to weaken.
Simultaneously, approximately 59 million Americans were under extreme heat warnings, with temperatures soaring 20 degrees above normal in parts of the Midwest and Northern Plains. Cooling centers opened in affected cities as another 84 million were advised to stay vigilant amid the extreme weather.
In Alaska, over 100 wildfires were reported due to warm and dry conditions, prompting evacuations in populated areas like Fairbanks, underscoring the active fire season.
