The National Weather Service (NWS) issued heat advisories and extreme heat warnings in Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas due to dangerously high temperatures, particularly in Phoenix, where temperatures could reach 115°F. This follows an ongoing heat wave affecting the Southwest, with temperatures significantly above the typical summer averages.
Meteorologists warned that very hot conditions can be especially perilous for outdoor workers and those engaging in activities during peak heat hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Specific cautions were directed at hikers in the Grand Canyon, advising against descending during the hottest parts of the day. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, use air conditioning, and limit physical exertion.
While a temporary respite from the heat is anticipated on Tuesday, further alerts may arise by Wednesday. The NWS forecasts point to potential record high temperatures over the coming days, especially in southern Arizona and southeastern California, where temperatures could exceed 120°F in areas like Death Valley.
