American Airlines experienced a significant reservation system outage for about four hours on Monday, starting around 11 AM EST. Customers faced difficulties searching for flights and booking via the website and app, receiving automated messages regarding system issues. Unlike a major outage last summer due to a security vendor, this problem seemed to be limited to American Airlines. The airline attributed the disruption to “vendor-related issues” and announced they were actively working on a solution with their partners.
Reports on social media indicated hundreds of users encountered problems, resulting in increased wait times at the airline’s call centers. By 3 PM EST, the system began to recover, allowing limited access to services, though performance was slower than usual.
This incident drew comparisons with past outages, particularly a notable one in April 2019 linked to Saber Corporation, which also affected American Airlines and other carriers using the same system. While American Airlines struggled, Delta, United, and Southwest Airlines reported no such issues during this period. The situation has since improved, but the airline will continue to keep customers informed as they address the issues.
