Andrew James McGann, a 28-year-old man, has been accused of murdering Clinton and Kristan Brink in Devilsden State Park, Arkansas. McGann worked briefly for Plano ISD in August 2024 but resigned before the school year started and had no contact with students. He passed all necessary background checks during his hiring.
Previously, McGann was a teacher at Donald Elementary in Flower Mound, where he was placed on administrative leave due to concerns related to classroom management and professional judgment, although no evidence of inappropriate behavior was found. Parents expressed shock and concern over McGann’s previous classroom actions.
Texas School Board member Brandon Hall has raised concerns about systemic gaps in school hiring practices, emphasizing the need for thorough investigations of teachers with allegations of misconduct. McGann had a history of passing background checks in other states. The Brinks were found murdered while hiking with their children; their daughters were unharmed. McGann was apprehended after a five-day manhunt, approximately 30 miles from the crime scene.
