Negotiations for a Gaza ceasefire in Doha have stalled as US and Israeli negotiators departed, with Washington accusing Hamas of “not acting in good faith.” US envoy Steve Witkoff emphasized the lack of cooperation from Hamas and expressed frustration over the ongoing conflict. Israeli officials denied any “collapse” in the talks, while Prime Minister Netanyahu has not publicly explained the withdrawal.
Hamas expressed surprise at the accusations, indicating a willingness to continue negotiations and resolve obstacles for a permanent ceasefire. The discussions have been ongoing for over two weeks, involving Qatari and Egyptian mediators.
Simultaneously, the UN reported rising malnutrition among children in Gaza, with over 100 international aid groups urging action against the humanitarian crisis. Israel, which controls aid supplies, has refuted claims of a siege and attributed malnutrition to Hamas. Since a campaign was launched by Israel in October 2023 following a Hamas-led attack, more than 59,000 Palestinians have reportedly died, with significant incidents of fatalities occurring near aid distribution centers.
