A powerful thunderstorm on Thursday caused widespread destruction in New Jersey, resulting in the deaths of at least three individuals. In Plainfield, two men—79-year-old Rocco Sanson and 25-year-old Brian Ernesto Valadales—were killed by a falling tree while in a car. A third victim, a 44-year-old woman from Middlesex, died when her parked vehicle was struck by uprooted trees in North Plainfield.
The storm brought winds exceeding 80 mph, leading to over 80 fallen trees, significant damage to homes and vehicles, and power outages affecting more than 23,000 customers statewide. Officials are working to assess damage and restore power, with emergency resources deployed for affected residents. Local mayors expressed their condolences and emphasized the ongoing recovery efforts, while the National Weather Service confirmed that the storm produced strong winds but no tornadoes.
