Tonicon Sepcion is drawn to Cooper Beach in Southampton for its white sand and mild breezes during the warm months. Stephen P. Leatherman, a beach researcher from Florida International University, has ranked Cooper Beach as the top beach in the United States for 2025, highlighting its soft quartz sand, tranquility, safety, and suburban vibe. This beach, known for its cleanliness and clear waters, has surpassed last year’s winner, Duke Kahanamoku Beach in Hawaii. Local residents appreciate Cooper Beach for its serene atmosphere, although some find the rough sand and high daily parking fee of $50 to be drawbacks. Leatherman suggests using the free Hampton Freeride shuttle for access. Despite its accolades, Southampton Village Mayor William Manor considers Fire Island to have an even better beach.
