In 2008, Bethesda transformed the Fallout series with Fallout 3, moving away from its isometric roots to a style akin to The Elder Scrolls. Since then, fans have seen Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4 over the next seven years, but there remains anticipation for a new mainline single-player Fallout title. Despite the release of Fallout 76 in 2018 and a Prime Video series in 2024, fans have had to wait.
Bethesda’s focus has shifted towards The Elder Scrolls VI, announced in 2018, while also hinting at Fallout 5 being in the works. Todd Howard of Bethesda mentioned the studio’s commitment to overlapping developments and emphasized the learning experiences gained from projects like Fallout 76 and Starfield, positioning them to create better future titles.
Howard expressed that while most of the team is focused on The Elder Scrolls VI, they are still working on Fallout projects. He highlighted a desire to create extensive gaming experiences for players, and both Emil Pagliarulo and Angela Browder spoke about learning from past projects and listening to player feedback to enhance future games and storytelling within the Fallout franchise.
