An inmate is on the run after three individuals removed mortar and concrete blocks from a prison wall in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana, in an escape attempt this week. Two inmates, facing assault charges, used sheets and materials to climb onto the prison’s exterior wall but fell onto a first-floor roof and then to the ground.
This incident follows a notable escape in Louisiana where ten inmates from a New Orleans prison used tools to break out. One of the escapees, Jonathan Joseph, was recaptured, while Joseph Allen Harrington, 26, committed suicide when found by police. The third inmate, Keith Ely, remains at large, prompting ongoing efforts for his capture.
Sheriff Bobby Guidros announced an internal investigation into the escape, while some officials contested claims about the prison’s structural integrity, asserting that it is in good condition. The superintendent emphasized the absence of deteriorated areas and attributed the escape to staffing issues rather than physical defects. Calls for better safety measures and improved working conditions for prison staff have emerged in light of the escape.
