Ten defendants have been arrested following a federal grand jury indictment connected to the January 31 killing of a federal witness in Colombia. The main suspect, Ryan James Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder residing in Mexico, is accused of leading a criminal enterprise involved in murder and drug trafficking. The FBI has increased the reward for information on Wedding to $15 million.
The indictment, part of “Operation Giant Slalom,” charges Wedding with orchestrating violent acts, including several murders tied to his drug operations in collaboration with the Sinaloa Cartel. Among those arrested are associates from Canada, Colombia, and the U.S., including a Canadian lawyer and a reggaeton musician who helped Wedding track and kill the witness.
U.S. officials stress the importance of their collaborative international efforts to dismantle dangerous drug trafficking networks. If convicted, the defendants may face life imprisonment. This operation is part of broader initiatives to combat organized crime and protect communities from violent crime and drug abuse. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
