Ford Motor Company is set to replace its 1950s glass headquarters with a modern industrial facility in Dearborn, Michigan. The new 2.1 million square foot building, known as “The Hub,” is designed to enhance collaboration among employees returning from remote work. Opening with a ceremony on Sunday, construction will continue until 2027 as the old 12-story facility is demolished.
The headquarters will consolidate operations for about 4,000 staff members involved in daily business, design, and product development. It features a large design studio, a spacious showroom, and minimal physical offices to encourage flexible work environments. Described by Ford Land CEO Jim Dobreske as a tool for productivity and collaboration, the building embodies the Ford+ plan for company efficiency.
The facility will offer a 160,000 square-foot dining area with diverse food options, including grab-and-go meals and an herb garden. Outdoor spaces and six courtyards will promote walkability across the campus, addressing previous limitations. Emphasizing health, the interior design prioritizes stairs over elevators to encourage movement.
The new headquarters incorporates notable artwork and unique design elements, including hidden Ford patents in glass wall patterns. Although Ford has yet to disclose the building’s total cost, it is part of a $1 billion campus overhaul initiated under former CEO Jim Hackett.
