SALT LAKE CITY — Annie Isaacson, president of the Sampson and Altadena condominium homeowners association, shared that all 17 residents united to support adding their century-old building to the historic landmarks list. The Salt Lake City Council voted unanimously to designate both buildings, built in 1906, as historic landmarks, safeguarding them from local development pressures.
Historically significant, the buildings were among the first apartment complexes in the city, representing early 20th-century urban growth. Isaacson emphasized the building’s diverse community and their goal to preserve its legacy amid increasing development, including nearby new high-rises.
Residents have raised nearly $1 million over five years to maintain the property’s heritage. The City Council’s decision reflects proactive efforts to protect historic buildings, with plans in place to buffer them from new constructions. Councilman Darin Mano called the vote a “victory” for preserving the city’s history.
