Tens of thousands demonstrated in Berlin, Germany, showing solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza and demanding an end to the Israeli-Hamas conflict. Organizers, including around 50 groups like Amnesty International, led chants for a free Palestine and called for halting Germany’s arms exports to Israel. Police estimated about 50,000 participants, with around 1,800 officers deployed for safety. Protests began at Alexander Platz and moved to the Tiergarten district’s victory column.
While the majority protested peacefully, a separate rally in support of Israel led to a brief skirmish between opposing groups. Similar protests occurred in other EU cities, including Düsseldorf and Geneva, with thousands advocating for an end to the conflict.
The ongoing violence has resulted in significant casualties, with over 65,100 reported deaths in Gaza since the war began on October 7, 2023, following a Hamas attack in Israel. The German government, traditionally supportive of Israel, has shown increased concern for civilians in Gaza and has recently questioned its stance on the situation.
