Currently, six Mexican states are under a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory, while eight are in Level 3 “Reconsider Travel.” Popular destinations for Arizonans, such as Sonora and Baja California, fall under the Level 3 category.
While violence has been reported, areas like Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) remain open to tourists, with no recent upticks in crime. Experts advise travelers to stay in tourist areas, keep informed about local conditions, and avoid remote places. The U.S. State Department encourages registering with their Smart Traveler program for updates. Despite concerns, the tradition of traveling to Mexico for spring break continues among many Arizona families.
