A U.S. Army reservist, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert M. Marzan, 54, from Sacramento, was believed killed in an Iranian drone strike in Kuwait during Operation Epic Fury. He was part of a group of six service members, marking the first American fatalities in the conflict with Iran. Governor Gavin Newsom announced that flags would be flown at half-staff in his honor, expressing condolences to Marzan’s family and acknowledging the sacrifices of military families. The Pentagon confirmed Marzan was at a “fortified tactical operations center” when the attack occurred. Alongside him, five other soldiers were also killed: Maj. Jeffrey R. O’Brien, Capt. Cody Koch, Sergeant First Class Nicole Amor, Sergeant First Class Noah Tietjens, and Specialist Declan Cody. Positive identification of Marzan’s body is pending.
