A U.S. parent, Collin Gray, was convicted of second-degree murder and manslaughter for the 2024 shooting deaths of two students and two teachers at Apalachee High School in Georgia. Prosecutors argued he had given his son, Colt Gray, a gun while being aware of his mental illness. Another case involves Jeffrey Rapnow, who faces charges for giving his daughter, Natalie, a gun before she fatally shot students and teachers at a Wisconsin private school in 2024. Rapnow claimed he bought the weapon as a means to communicate, while his lawyers said he acted reasonably.
Jennifer and James Crumbley are notable parents charged in a school shooting; they were convicted of manslaughter after their son, Ethan, killed four people at Oxford High School in Michigan in 2021. They had provided him with a firearm days before the incident.
Robert Climo Jr. pled guilty to aiding his son, who killed seven people at a Fourth of July parade. Climo Jr. received a 60-day jail sentence, while his son is serving life in prison. In a separate incident, Dejah Taylor faced state and federal charges after her 6-year-old son shot a teacher in Virginia. She was sentenced to federal prison for gun-related crimes and accepted responsibility for her son’s actions.
