A tragic fire during a New Year’s Eve party at Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, claimed the lives of 40 people, primarily young partygoers. The blaze reportedly started in the basement due to a sparkler placed too close to the ceiling, possibly igniting soundproofing foam. The identities of all 116 injured have been confirmed, and while 83 are still hospitalized with severe burns, the total number of injuries was corrected from 119.
Among the deceased, which included a mix of nationalities, 21 were Swiss, nine were French, and six were Italian, with victims aged between 14 and 39. The bodies of five Italian victims have been repatriated, while the sixth, who lived in Switzerland, will be interred locally.
