Philip Young, a former city councilman, has been charged with 56 sexual crimes against his ex-wife, Joanne Young, spanning a 13-year period. The charges include multiple counts of rape, drugging with the intent to stupefy, voyeurism, and possessing indecent images of children. Young, 49, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court but did not enter a plea. The offenses reportedly took place between 2010 and 2023.
In addition, five other men have been charged with sex crimes against Young, with two pleading not guilty. Among them are Norman McThoni and Dean Hamilton, who face charges related to rape and sexual assault. All six defendants have been released on bail under conditions barring contact with Joanne Young, and they are scheduled for a hearing at Swindon Crown Court on January 23. Police are also investigating another unidentified suspect connected to the case.
