Jeep has officially unveiled its all-electric Recon SUV, priced at $65,000, with production set to begin early next year in Mexico. Inspired by the classic Wrangler, the Recon features iconic design elements such as removable doors and an open-air roof. With an electric motor producing 650 horsepower and 620 foot-pounds of torque, it promises enhanced off-road performance, though it offers a range of up to 250 miles per charge, which is less than some cheaper EVs.
This launch is part of Jeep’s turnaround strategy following years of declining sales, and it completes a promise to introduce four new or updated models within four months, including hybrid versions of the Cherokee and redesigned Grand models.
The Recon’s price marks a $14,000 premium over the Wrangler plug-in hybrid and highlights Jeep’s focus on maintaining quality over sales volume. Despite a recent contraction in the EV market due to the end of federal incentives, Jeep aims to ensure a consistent presence in the electric vehicle sector. As it adapts production capabilities, the brand’s U.S. market share continues to decline, highlighting ongoing challenges within the company’s sales strategy.
