Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced plans to press charges against a man who molested her during a public appearance in Mexico City. In a video of the incident, the man, described as “completely intoxicated,” approached her, placed his hands on her body, and attempted to kiss her. Sheinbaum expressed her shock and emphasized the broader implications for women’s safety in Mexico, stating, “If this can happen to our president, what can we expect from every young woman in this country?”
Sheinbaum plans to launch a campaign aimed at educating men about respecting women’s rights and announced that she would work to make such crimes punishable across all 32 Mexican states. Despite the incident, she affirmed her commitment to engaging with the public directly, highlighting the importance of remaining connected to the community. The man involved was arrested following the incident, which occurred while Sheinbaum was walking between government buildings.
