Apple has released a new beta firmware (build number 8B5014c) for AirPods Pro 2, Pro 3, and AirPods 4, currently available only to developers. This comes as Apple tests the forthcoming iOS 26.1 update, which may introduce live translation support in new languages, including Japanese, Korean, Italian, and both traditional and simplified Chinese.
Notably, with the iOS 26 suite (including iPadOS 26 and macOS Tahoe), users can now install beta firmware directly through the AirPods settings when connected to Apple devices. Developers can enable beta downloads via a designated option.
Additionally, reports suggest significant leadership changes within Apple, indicating a potential shift in the company’s future direction. Garman’s newsletter hints that a major leadership transition may be approaching, with John Tarnas being considered as a potential CEO successor to Tim Cook.
The newly released firmware updates may improve audio quality, though details remain sparse. The second beta of iOS 26.1 also features design changes for alarms, requiring a new slide gesture to dismiss. Lastly, expectations for the iPad Mini 8 and a new M5 MacBook Pro with upgraded specifications are in the pipeline, driven by supply constraints linked to the current M4 model.
