Microsoft has increased the price of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Membership from $19.99 to $29.99 per month and renamed some membership tiers. In response, GameStop announced it will continue selling Game Pass Ultimate for the old price both in-store and online, a move not confirmed by other major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and Target, which continue listing the subscription at previous rates.
Speculation suggests GameStop may be selling from an existing stock of codes reflecting the old price, whereas online digital codes are typically updated more easily. As a result, there’s uncertainty regarding the price on existing inventory.
Following Microsoft’s price hike announcement, interest surged in pre-hiking codes, with fans rushing to secure lower rates. Game Pass Ultimate memberships can be stacked for up to 36 months, leading some calculations showing potential savings over time despite the increased price. This marks a significant price jump, following a smaller increase in July 2024.
Microsoft has also added over 45 new games to the Game Pass as part of this change.
