MetaRay-Ban Displays are now available in select US stores, including Best Buy and Lenscrafters, but many require in-person demos to purchase them. Demos are often fully booked until late October or later. Meta aims to expand store availability and plans to offer online sales in the future.
The glasses are available in shiny black and matte sand sizes, with transition lenses for indoor and outdoor use, supporting prescriptions between -4 and +4. Priced at $800, they feature a small head-up display (HUD) on the right lens, operated via a metaneural band that senses wrist muscle activation for finger gestures. The band is water-resistant and offers about 18 hours of battery life.
Features of MetaRay-Ban Displays include:
– Meta AI integration for enhanced visuals and tutorials.
– Messaging and video call support from platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram.
– Real-time camera and zoom capabilities.
– Pedestrian navigation with visual maps.
– Live captioning and translation features.
– Music control via on-display cards.
While the glasses weigh 69 grams and are somewhat bulky, they are designed to keep their display functionality. Battery life is estimated at around 6 hours under normal use. Future software updates will add new text input capabilities.
However, initial reviews suggest the first-generation devices may have defects, but the wristbands are notably effective. Recently, Meta also clarified that demos are not a strict requirement for purchase.
