The Google Home app has been revamped and is now called “Ask Home,” currently rolling out for iPhone users ahead of an official announcement on October 1st. The latest update, version 4.0.54, features a fresh design with rounded icons and gradient colors.
The app now includes a new “Ask (Home Name)” bar at the top and a vertical “plus pill” for adding devices, automation, and more. The interface has been streamlined into three main tabs, focusing on favorites and devices, while maintaining existing layout for activities and automation.
Notably, a chatbot feature is introduced, allowing users to search for devices and perform actions more intuitively. However, advanced functions are not yet active. A disclaimer notes that the voice assistant will be accessible to all household members, including guests, and that voice queries can remain active for follow-up without needing to repeat the wake phrase.
Overall, the redesign reflects a significant shift in user interaction with smart home technology.
