Four US citizens, including three children, were among five people killed in Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, as reported by the Lebanese government. Israeli forces claimed the strikes targeted Hezbollah operatives but acknowledged civilian casualties. Lebanon’s Foreign Minister stated the mother of the American family was critically injured.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the attack as “genocide” against civilians and called for international condemnation of Israel’s actions. UNICEF expressed outrage over the deaths of the children, emphasizing that attacks on minors are unacceptable.
Despite a US-brokered ceasefire last November, Israeli strikes in Lebanon continue. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, attending the UN General Assembly, criticized Israel for violating international resolutions and vowed to seek global support to address the ongoing violence. The strikes occurred following Israeli cabinet remarks about military victories over Hezbollah.
