Cory Zukatis, a 35-year-old from Brandon, Mississippi, was found hanging from a tree in a wooded area in Vicksburg. The Warren County Coroner, Doug L. Husky, mentioned that Zukatis was homeless and that an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of death, with no conclusions about foul play or suicide yet. Vicksburg Police Chief Larry Burns confirmed the death is being treated as a death investigation and expressed condolences to Zukatis’ family.
There has been confusion on social media, with misidentified photos circulating. Some mistakenly linked Zukatis to Galvin Fortenbury, a 17-year-old gun violence victim, and other images reportedly belong to a different Cory Zukatis from Florida.
The discovery of Zukatis’ body coincided with the unrelated death of Delta State University student Demartravion “Trey” Reed, who was also found hanging from a tree. Authorities have stated there is no suspicion of foul play in either case. Rumors surrounding both deaths have proliferated online, particularly in the wake of recent political events, but officials have refrained from discussing murder possibilities in either instance.
