On Tuesday at Stanton State Park, law enforcement initiated a search for a suspect involved in the attempted murder of a Colorado Parks and Wildlife ranger. The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. during an argument near Old Mill Trail, leading to the ranger being stabbed and subsequently hospitalized. Law enforcement described the suspect as a white male in his early 30s, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing 200 pounds, wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office utilized both ground and aerial resources in a comprehensive search, evacuating park visitors while questioning them for potential leads. Local schools and nearby residents were also affected, with heightened security measures in place. The park will remain closed until Wednesday morning, and authorities urged anyone with information to call 911. Stanton State Park, located 38 miles west of Denver, spans 3,908 acres and opened in May 2013.
