Sony has filed a lawsuit against Tencent, alleging that its game, Motiram Light on Polaris Quest, is a “slavish clone” of their Horizon series. The game, which first surfaced in November 2024, drew immediate comparisons to Horizon due to its apocalyptic setting, similar protagonist, and mechanical creatures.
In response to the lawsuit, Tencent has initiated updates on the game’s Steam page, aiming to distance it from Horizon’s aesthetics. These changes include rewriting the game’s description to focus more on general survival themes rather than “giant machines,” and replacing screenshots and key art that resembled Horizon. The promotional images now feature in-game creatures instead of a human protagonist, and the game’s release window has been updated to the fourth quarter of 2027.
Currently, there have been no significant updates in the lawsuit, with complaints still pending and Tencent remaining silent on the matter. The alterations raise questions about whether they are genuine efforts to mitigate legal concerns or simply smart marketing strategies.
