Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko reached the quarterfinals of the National Bank Open by defeating top seed Coco Gauff, with a score of 6-1, 6-4. In her victory, Mboko expressed gratitude to the crowd and acknowledged Gauff’s talent, despite the match being marred by Gauff’s five double faults. Ranked 85th in the world, 18-year-old Mboko improved her game after a previous loss to Gauff in Rome. Meanwhile, other quarterfinal matches featured Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk defeating McCartney Kessler and Elena Rybakina beating Dayana Yastremska. Mboko will next face the winner of a match between Lin Zhu and Jessica Bouza Maneiro.
