The Reset Hotel has opened in Twentynine Palms, California, near the north entrance of Joshua Tree National Park. This marks the first full-service boutique hotel built from scratch in the high desert in over 15 years. Comprising 65 uniquely designed rooms on 180 acres of raw desert land, it offers direct access to the national park.
Co-founder Ben Uyeda aimed to create an environment that encourages guests to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature. He noted a correlation between increasing social media usage and a growing desire to visit natural parks, highlighting how digital consumption drives people towards authentic, outdoor experiences.
The hotel features minimalist design elements, including custom-built guest units resembling shipping containers, fire pits, private immersion tubs, and stargazing platforms. Despite its remote setting, amenities like Wi-Fi, curated coffee stations, and bath products are available. The hotel also promotes local art installations and creative programming across its expansive grounds.
Uyeda, who has lived in the area for a long time, believes Twentynine Palms is an ideal hub for creatives and emphasizes the importance of respecting the land during the hotel’s development. The hotel aims to provide an immersive experience that connects guests to the natural beauty of the desert, setting itself apart from typical hospitality offerings.
Additionally, the Twentynine Palms City Council will discuss plans for a new 152-acre resort in the Indian Cove area.
