In a recent explosion in Khan Yunis, seven Israeli soldiers were killed, marking one of the deadliest incidents for Israeli forces in Gaza since the conflict escalated following Hamas’s attack on October 7, 2023. The total death toll for Israeli soldiers has surpassed 860 during this ongoing war.
Hamas’s military wing, the Al-Kassam Brigade, claimed responsibility for the ambush, stating they targeted Israeli soldiers positioned in homes, using missiles and machine guns. The situation remains tense, as the Palestinian death toll in Gaza has exceeded 56,000 since the conflict reignited on March 18, following a two-month ceasefire. Israeli military operations have reportedly resulted in significant civilian casualties, with more than half of the deaths being women and children.
In addition, Israeli forces shot and killed a 66-year-old Palestinian woman from East Jerusalem, an incident under investigation by Israeli police. Local Palestinian officials reported the woman’s death occurred during an Israeli raid on the Shuafat refugee camp, leading to further arrests within her family. The conflict continues to escalate, with ongoing challenges regarding territorial claims, particularly in East Jerusalem, which Palestinians seek as the capital of a future independent state.
