Japan has expressed heightened concerns over Chinese military activities as two Chinese aircraft carriers, Liaoning and Shandong, operated together in the Pacific for the first time. China claims its activities fall within international law and are part of routine training, despite Japan’s apprehension about military growth and joint operations, particularly in relation to Taiwan. The Chinese Navy recently expanded its capabilities, including a third aircraft carrier undergoing trials.
