Bandai Namco Entertainment announced Code Vein II at the Summer Game Fest, marking the sequel’s debut after six years. Producer Keita Iizuka shared insights into this new installment, highlighting that it features a fresh narrative separate from the original game, allowing newcomers to easily jump in.
Set in a world ravaged by a phenomenon called the Resurrection, players will navigate as Lena Bent Hunter, a human wielding vampire powers, alongside a vampire companion, Lou Magmel. The game explores time travel, revealing vampire lore and deepening human-vampire relationships.
Combat mechanics are enhanced with a new "Vampill Action" system, allowing players to use enemies’ blood to power special abilities. The buddy system from the first game is back, but improved to emphasize character interactions while maintaining options for solo play.
Character customization has been expanded for greater personalization, and the game’s darker tone reflects a deeper exploration of vampire mythology. The environments vary through time, showcasing a destroyed present versus a harmonious past.
With insights from fan feedback during a six-year development span, the game incorporates accessibility improvements and is optimized for next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Code Vein II aims to combine original gameplay feel with new elements, offering an enriching experience for both new and returning players. A release date has yet to be announced.
