In Kyiv, Ukraine, at least 15 people were injured during a significant overnight attack involving Russian drones and missiles. The assault included 14 ballistic missiles and approximately 250 Shahed drones, marking one of the largest attacks on the capital. Amid the chaos, many residents sought shelter in subway stations, and explosions were reported across the city. Six people required medical treatment, with particularly severe damage in the Oboron district.
This attack coincided with a large-scale prisoner exchange, the first phase of a swap involving around 1,000 individuals, agreed upon during a recent meeting in Istanbul. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that 390 Ukrainians were returned, with subsequent releases anticipated over the weekend. Despite the exchange, fighting continued along the front lines, leading to significant casualties on both sides.
Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko had issued warnings ahead of the attack, while ongoing diplomatic efforts for a peace agreement faced challenges. Both Ukraine and Russia remain far apart on critical conditions for a ceasefire, with ongoing military maneuvers and strikes continuing unabated.
