Six Flags America in Maryland, along with its water park Hurricane Harbor, will close in 2025 as part of a strategic restructuring of the company’s park portfolio. This decision comes after a comprehensive review, indicating that these locations do not align with Six Flags’ long-term growth plans. The parks, originally established on land that served as a wildlife center, will be sold for redevelopment.
The theme park, which opened in 1992 and was rebranded under Six Flags in 1997, features historical attractions, including the world’s third oldest wooden roller coaster, Wild One, originally built in 1912. The park’s final operating day is set for November 2, 2025.
The closure has elicited mixed reactions from the local community. While some express sadness over losing a long-standing entertainment venue, others see potential for the redevelopment of the site as an opportunity for community growth. Six Flags has promised to support its approximately 70 full-time staff through the transition.
