US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reached out to senior officials in India and Pakistan to address escalating tensions following recent fatal attacks in Kashmir. He urged Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniyam Jaishankar and Pakistan Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif to de-escalate the situation. India has accused Pakistan of supporting the attack that left 26 tourists dead in Pahargam, while Pakistan denies any involvement.
Both countries have taken retaliatory steps, expelling diplomats and suspending a water-sharing treaty. Military tensions have surged, with both sides exchanging fire along their de facto border. Rubio expressed US support for India’s fight against terrorism and emphasized the need for cooperation in South Asia.
Sharif rejected India’s allegations and called for a responsible approach from New Delhi, suggesting an international investigation into the attacks. Amid growing anger in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to pursue the attackers relentlessly. Meanwhile, Pakistani military officials warned of a swift response to any Indian military actions.
