Geethu Mohandas, a Malayali travel entrepreneur who runs a platform called “Go camping,” experienced a sleepless night as three groups of tourists in her care are in Pahargam, Kashmir. Tragically, 26 people, mostly tourists, died in terrorist attacks in the area. Fortunately, Geethu announced that her tourists in Srinagar are safe. The atmosphere has changed dramatically due to the presence of helicopters and ambulances.
Geethu cautioned against visiting Baisaran, the site of the attacks, describing its steep terrain and unsafe conditions that have led her to exclude it from itineraries, in favor of more serene locations like Aru, Betaab, and Chandan Valleys. She shared a past incident where a travel coordinator was injured, highlighting the lack of support from local pony handlers.
Despite the recent violence, Geethu remarked on the kindness of local residents, who often assure tourists of their safety. She noted an increase in tourist interest in Kashmir, with 2025 projected to be one of the busiest years, as evidenced by Google search trends for Pahalgam.
