A medic was killed and nine others injured in an Israeli missile strike at Kuwaitfield Hospital in Gaza on Tuesday, following another attack on Al Ali Hospital over the weekend. The United Nations warned that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is the worst since the onset of the conflict, with hundreds of thousands of displaced people living in dire conditions.
The latest strikes come as Israel has resumed offensive operations in the region, leading to significant shortages of food, water, fuel, and medical supplies. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed deep concern over the targeting of hospitals, which are protected under international law. Israel claims these hospitals are being used by Hamas for military purposes, further complicating the situation.
Medical professionals in Gaza report that the healthcare system is nearing collapse, with ongoing threats to medical staff and facilities. The situation has worsened since the ceasefire with Hamas ended in March, leading to an increase in civilian casualties, with an estimated 51,000 deaths, predominantly among women and children.
Human rights groups have condemned Israel’s tactics as equivalent to war crimes, arguing that the blockade and military actions are creating a humanitarian disaster. UN experts have stated that conditions in Gaza are leading to a slow suffocation of the population, as basic means of survival become increasingly scarce.
