A tragic fire at the “Palse” nightclub in Kochani, North Macedonia, has resulted in the deaths of at least 59 people and injured about 150 others. The fire broke out early Sunday morning during a performance by local band ACT DNK, supposedly caused by fireworks used for lighting effects, which ignited flammable materials in the club. Home Minister Panchi Tosskowsky confirmed that the flames spread quickly, leading to chaos as concert-goers attempted to escape.
Witnesses described a frantic scene as people rushed to save themselves. Many of the injured, treated in hospitals, suffered from burns and smoke inhalation. Authorities have detained the nightclub owner, and four additional individuals are being sought in connection with the incident.
The North Macedonian Prime Minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss of young lives, and condolences came from European leaders and the U.S. ambassador. This event marks one of the deadliest nightclub fires in recent history, echoing similar tragedies in Romania and Brazil caused by fireworks. In response to the disaster, the government plans to declare a week of national mourning.
