A severe weather system affected parts of the United States over the weekend, leading to at least two fatalities and widespread destruction. In southern central Missouri, two adults were killed, and many were injured due to tornadoes and damaging winds, which reached up to 80 mph. The National Weather Service issued tornado and thunderstorm warnings across several states, including Alabama, Kentucky, and Texas. Extreme conditions resulted in dangerous dust storms in Texas, causing a massive car pileup with three deaths.
Oklahoma declared evacuations in several areas as over 130 wildfires were reported, fueled by strong winds and dry conditions. The Storm Prediction Center warned of potential tornadoes and heavy storms continuing into the weekend, with flash flooding also anticipated on the east coast. Meanwhile, blizzard warnings were issued for parts of the Northern Plains, predicting significant snowfall and dangerous conditions. The extreme weather posed threats to more than 100 million people across the nation, with widespread power outages affecting over 300,000 homes and businesses.
