China, which claims extensive rights over the South China Sea—crucial for global trade—has faced tensions with several countries in the area and has rejected international court rulings that undermine its claims. It maintains a strong military presence near Taiwan and has conducted unannounced military exercises, drawing complaints from neighboring countries, including Australia.
