Ashes of Creation, a now-defunct MMORPG developed by Intrepid Studios, raised $3.2 million on Kickstarter but has since faced a public legal battle following its release. The game was removed from Steam in February. Tensions escalated between former CEO Stephen Sharif and the studio’s board, complicating the verification of various claims.
Amidst the turmoil, YouTube channel NefasQS published a detailed investigation alleging mismanagement of funds, claiming to possess the studio’s general ledger from 2015 to 2026. This report suggests the studio has faced multiple financial crises and accuses Sharif and his husband, John Moore, of using company funds for a lavish lifestyle.
NefasQS highlighted payments for personal chefs, expensive cigars, and significant amounts spent on antiques and gaming merchandise. A particularly serious allegation involves a payment related to a company linked to the couple’s $4.9 million San Diego mansion.
Sharif denied the allegations, calling them false and defamatory, and claimed no Kickstarter funds were misappropriated. He suggested that discontented individuals are attempting to undermine his position while he continues legal proceedings. Following the report, efforts to remove its publication have reportedly been made.
Sharif previously announced a legal victory against the board in March, indicating ongoing disputes surrounding the game’s management and finances.
