The TWZ newsletter provides a weekly update on U.S. aircraft carriers, highlighting significant developments in military technology and strategy. Recently, the USS Gerald R. Ford, the largest and most advanced aircraft carrier, returned to Naval Base Norfolk after a record 326-day deployment—its longest in over 50 years—during which it operated primarily in Europe and the Caribbean. The Carrier Strike Group (CSG) supported various operations, including the evacuation of President Nicolás Maduro from Venezuela and a mission against Iran, logging over 57,000 nautical miles and receiving the President’s Unit Citation.
In contrast, the USS George Washington, along with USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and USS Theodore Roosevelt, returned to port for routine operations and training. The USS George Washington completed a shakedown cruise and is preparing for future patrols in the Western Pacific.
The U.S. maintains a strong naval presence in the Middle East, with more than 20 warships operating under U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which includes enforcing a blockade against Iran. Recent military actions have seen the U.S. divert 81 commercial ships and disable four vessels making blockade attempts.
